Rapscallion in TYPOSHIRT ONE

You may have seen some recent news on the Rapscallion Twitter and facebook about Rapscallion in print. So here's a bit more info...
TypoShirt One is a book about typography on T-shirts. It's definitely not the first publication that deals with the topic of “T-shirts”, but it’s the first one that focuses exclusively on the typography phenomenon in T-shirt culture.

The Rapscallion Tee "Always Schemin' Never Dreamin'" is going to be featured in the script section of TypoShirt One and as you can guess i'm well pleased with this. The book is by IndexBooks and Magma Brand Design and will be coming out October this year! You will be able to pick it up at places like amazon and good book shops!

Website Update

I've decided to update www.wearerapscallion.co.uk. I thought it would be a good idea to have a selection of my design work on there. This way as well as buying some Rapscallion Tee's you can check out some of the work i've done for various clients. This can now be seen in the "Work" section. But don't worry, i'll still be keeping the blog up to date with the latest news.

Mental Confusion Single Cover

I've finished the cover of the new single "Mental Confusion" by Shychlo on FlickFinger Records.
We ended up going with something that was close to the other promo items i've done for them. Lots of grunge, splats and shiny things. Well pleased how it's come out! The new single is out on the 28th of June, through itunes, other digital download sources and in selected shops.

I've been working on some more bits for FlickFinger Records, including some bits for the band Shychlo and their upcoming release of there debut single "Mental Confusion". One of the ideas i've recently sketched is this hand-drawn logo idea for their single. It uses the title of the single "Mental Confusion" and uses the typography to create a brain shape.

Finished All-Natural Logo

I've finished working on the new All-Natural Logo. We ended up going with the flowing hand drawn type, but added a nod towards a lotus flower using the curves from the lettering. The end result is an organic looking fresh and clean logo. All-Natural are a company that will be selling natural products such as natural candles, natural home ware products and natural cosmetics. The logo will be used on the website as well as well as paperwork.

So, i've been pretty poor with keeping this updated. But that's gonna change. Aside from bits of freelance, i've started work on the next batch of designs for Rapscallion clothing. These are 'hopefully' gonna drop end of summer, maybe in one go, or on a month by month basis. We'll see what happens. You can check out a few sketches below

There's also some interesting t-shirt collaborations in the pipeline. so watch out for those this year!

Work in progress - All Natural Logo.

I'm currently working on a logo for All-Natural. A company that will be selling natural products such as natural candles, natural home ware products and natural cosmetics. They wanted a clean and fresh looking logo.

I thought it would be cool to show you some initial ideas for this project and the various routes i've gone down. I decided to do some hand-drawn type as well as some illustrator made icons. We'll see where we go from here.

I've been pretty bogged down with work and other things as of late, but have found time to have a bit of an experiment and have a play around making an illustration. It's a big mix of, paint, drawing, photos, and digital media. There's no real story behind the image, but I wanted to create a slightly grungy and rough looking image and see what I came up with. I'm pretty pleased how it's come out.

Now and again I'll post something from my portfolio. These are a few logos i've created for various clients.
Skinny Butt - is a lifestyle clothing brand for a scooter and moped company. They wanted something young and fun, so I created this cheeky hand drawn logo.
Kirsty Calnan - is a Hair and Make Up Artist. This hand drawn logo is made up of her name and job and made to look like a lipstick kiss.
Last from the Larder - is a food related social website. They wanted a very simple and clean look with a nod towards something food related.

Dafont is a great website to go to if your looking for different quirky fonts, plus there's literally thousands to choose from and they're all free! Just search for "Blokked" on dafont.com and there you will find it.

Poster Project Preview

You may have seen my twitter and facebook posts asking about famous sports events recently. I'm going to be putting them to good use, using some of these events in an alternative poster project. Basically, I'm trying to portray the event in a way that may not have been used on an original poster. I'm gonna be using some vectors and nice textures. You never know if there's enough interest I may put them up for print. But for now check out the preview below. Can you tell what event it is?

Finished "It's All Happening" Logo

I've finished working on the new It's All Happening Logo and it's gone in a very different direction to the version I posted before. They wanted a more DIY feel to it, so went down the cut'n'paste and typewriter font route and came up with the below. I'm pretty please with how its turned out. Expect to see it on the next issue of IAH real soon.

A Quick Update

Thought it was time for a quick update. Been fairly busy with work recently, so that's why the bloggings been a bit slow as of late. Things I've been working on at the momment include, a load more stuff for FlickFinger Records and Shychlo. Things like band cards and promo stuff, expect to see some examples here soon. Been finishing off the It's All Happening logo, which has now gone in a different direction and also been planning a project of my own based around famous sporting events. New stuff dropping real soon!

"It's All Happening" Zine Logo

It's All Happening is a free A5 sized music zine that up until now has been pretty much distributed in Leeds, with the rest finding their way into London. Recently things have changed and they're now permanently London based. With their first London based IAH zine to be released soon, they asked me to come up with a new logo for them. They wanted some sort of hand writing style with a musical influence, so i've been working on this cable looking hand drawn type complete with headphone jack!

Shychlo "Mental Tour" Poster

I got asked to do a quick tour poster for Shychlo's gig at the Hazlitt Theatre in Maidstone. I'm stoked how it's turned out.
They asked me to base it on the logo image I did for them a post below. The only difference really was the fact it was a big A2 poster so file sizes were monster. This bad boy has layers upon layers and took ages to save but in the end the below was produced in A2, A3 and A6 form.

Finished Shychlo Logo

I've just recently finished the final logo for the band Shychlo on FlickFinger Records. Shychlo bring a fresh twist to the Hip Hop sound. Creating a blend of Hip Hop, Rock, Pop Punk, Funk and a few more types of music creeping their way in between. I decided to go away from the tattoo inspired look and went for something a bit cleaner and bold looking, a logo that could appeal to all genres and not really offend any one type. I finished with the logo below.

Blokked - a free font by the Rapscallion

So, i'm pretty happy with how my first font creation has gone and "Blokked" is now ready to download for free here! Blokked is a big bold font designed to work well with headlines and images placed inside the text. It contains letters, numbers, punctuation and a number of special characters. Blokked was created by hand and is based on a 2 X 2 grid. It was then transferred, modified and refined on computer.

Compatible: PC and MAC

I'm always looking around for nice typefaces to use, so thought it was time to make one of my own. I've been working on a new font called "Blokked". It's going to be a big chunky bold font that can be applied to all sorts of design. I'll be releasing it on the rapscallion design blog for free, so keep an eye out for a download real soon.

I've been doing a few bits for FlickFinger Records and i'm currently working on a new logo for one of there bands, Shychlo. They wanted some tattoo like typography so i've put pen to paper and have been working on these initial hand-drawn designs.

If twitter, myspace, facebook and flickr weren't enough, i've decided the Rapscallion needed a blog as well.

I've been doing a few other bits of designing other than t-shirts recently and thought a blog would be a good way to show people what the Rapscallions been up to. So, expect to see here various drawings and scribbles on jobs i've been working on, as well as the usual clothing updates and probably a few posts on interesting stuff I find.
